What Is Raw Food On a Vegan Diet?

In veganism, it’s a diet that combines the concepts of veganism and raw foodism. It excludes food cooked at a temperature above 48°C (118°F).

Raw food definition

It includes raw vegetables and fruits, nuts and nut pastes, plant oils, grain and legume sprouts, seeds, sea vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, and fresh juices. There are many different versions of the raw diet.
In terms of health, some hold the belief that cooking foods destroys the complex balance of micronutrients.

Adherents to a raw-food diet believe it is the most natural eating pattern for humans because it preserves the true value of food. The premise for consuming such a diet is not yet scientifically supported. Although cooking may destroy some of the nutrients in foods, heat also improves their digestibility, destroys natural mineral inhibitors, and helps improve absorption of protein and iron.

Still, a raw vegan diet can be adequate for adults if sprouted beans and grains are used in sufficient quantities. It is not recommended for babies and children.
