Where does salt come from?

Many people think the salt shaker is the main culprit of an over-salted diet. This isn't true. The fact is, around three-fourths of dietary sodium comes from processed and restaurant foods. Only about a tenth of salt consumption comes from the salt we add to food while cooking or eating. To cut down on your salt intake, simply eat more home-made foods.
